Murals at Stony Plain

Day 7 - Multicultural Heritage Centre/ Pioneer museum at Stony Plain, Alberta

Today we visited a multicultural heritage centre which was an old school built in 1925 and a Pioneer museum. There seemed to be something there for many of my family and friends :

Pam- Pam, Jonny and Myrtle - Rules of a Teacher

Laura - a sewing machine

Tiger - a fire engine

Julie and all my nursing friends - an old nurses uniform

Becci - a red head sign.

The village has colouful murals throughout and is known as "The Town with the Painted Past."

I had my first attempt at driving on the Highway as we have to pick up a hire car tomorrow. The Pam Pam is now fully charged and ready to go but I can't say that I enjoyed the driving..... Still, needs must !

We have one more day here until we head off to the Rockies...... Watch this space !

Eating ribs / Tigers's dream bike.....

Ukrainian Village

Day 6 - David goes Bison hunting at Elk Island

Today we went to Elk Island, a National Park of Canada about a 1 hour drive east from where we are staying. The park is huge - 164 square kilometers so you would not be able to walk it in one day ! There are plenty of stop off points with trails leading to lakes and wildlife but some of these take between 2 and 6 hours to reach. We drove in the car and Dave, as you will see in the pictures, became very close to a Bison. The Bison, however, was unimpressed with little Dave and made a strange growling noise to which Dave headed straight back to the safety of the car !

We then went to the Ukranian Cultural Heritage Village - another living history museum set in a large area of land. The Pam Pam was playing the part and asking all historical questions and Dave tried to catch the train..... He was also offered work bailing the hay in the Ukranian village at $1 per day - a good wage for the era, including board and lodging in the hay barn !

Our evening meal was at Montana's, where Tiger and Dave had the "as much as you can eat ribs." They were given Montana's T- shirts and we all had fun colouring in the paper table cloth. It was allowed - they even provided the crayons !

Edmonton Queen

Day 5 A Taste of Edmonton / Edmonton Queen Riverboat.

Today we went to a "Taste of Edmonton" food, wine and beer festival. Each ticket could be bought for $1 and you could then choose from a variety of mini dishes from around the world - China, India, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, America etc. Tiger could not decide what to have and I think that Weight Watchers points were not counted today....

On stage were live bands playing Aboriginal music and we met Pochahontas who invted us into her Teepee. No more "loitering with intent jokes," thanks Jonny!

We then went on the Edmonton Queen Riverboat cruise - a 170 foot paddle wheeler to show David that not all boats sink, unlike The Titanic.

When we arrived home David and I practised our scales on the piano - Dave is a natural pianist !

Celebration Park and Bear Catching !

St Albert's famers market / Celebration Park

Day 3

The boys have all left Edmonton and are on their way to Hinton. No rugby for a couple more days and we will meet up with them in Vancouver.
Today we went to St Albert's Farmers market where they sell local handmade gifts and organic fruit and vegetables.
In the afternoon we went for a walk in Celebration Park - to celebrate that Dave has a new battery charger - he certainly made good use of it !
Dave then set up a bear trap in the garden and managed to catch the 3 bears..... Goldilocks was nowhere in site...
Dinner was the River House Grill and we were served by Sarah from "Same Difference ". She did not do very well onthe X-factor so is now waitressing in St Albert and still smiling from ear to ear.

Best bits corner Day 2

I forgot to add "best bits corner" of Day 2. The internet around here is a bit slow compared to the UK.
Tiger : " Watching the boys come onto the pitch in their kits with their flag and the Mountie and Bagpiper."
Dave: " Buying a battery charger for my new camera." - Dave had managed to leave behind his charger for his brand new camera plugged into the lounge at Penstemon Drive...........!It took a Google search t find one in this area so he is now up and running again with his camera.
Mum: "Too many extremes today to give any particular thing."
Me: "Feeling very, very proud to be watching Luke play rugby here in Canada and very fortunate to share that experience."
